About

“ I prefer solitary, tranquil contemplative images and I am heavily influenced by the Dutch Masters and the Modern Impressionists. I try to use that aesthetic to bring emotive sensibilities to my work. It is always evolving, and I find that I use a minimalist emphasis, which include the use of elements, such as colour, shapes, texture, pattern and composition, to express a concept, in order to bring forth a distinctive visual experience or elicit an emotional response from the viewer. In the world of photography, it’s viewed as an intuitive and personal concept, entrusting interpretation and understanding to the audience and their perspective of art…”

Born in Cape Town Eugene’s love for photography started at age 8 with his first Kodak Ektra 200, and developed a growing interest in people and places and the effect they have on each other.

He presents the subjects, which include landscapes, architecture and still life, as portraiture and views the places he visits with a keen eye for emotion, and the aim of telling a story.

Now, living in the UK, he applies the same emotive and documentary approach to his work. He shoots mainly in Black & White, and as mentioned, prefers leaving you with an image and a narrative that invites your own interpretation and meaning.
